Frequently asked questions
(FAQ)

If I want to give a presentation online (Webinar) to multiple participants, how can I arrange interpreting?

For the online service (via video) with simultaneous interpreting, the special function “interpreting” should be available in the programme. Usually this is the paid version, for example in Zoom.

The audience chooses the appropriate language channel to follow the speaker in his or her own language, while the organiser of the online meeting (Webinar) assigns the interpreter the role of interpreter (not just participant). The interpreter can also be an organiser, this is negotiable.

Call-out charges are irrespective of travel costs (fuel and travel time). As an interpreter, you are often (and preferably) asked to spend a minimum of 15 minutes be present in advance for your personal assignment, which also involves 15 to 30 minutes of travel time.

Each hour is considered “missed work time” for the interpreter, so call-out charges are usually added to the invoice at 50% of the hourly rate. It can also be lower, depending on travel distance, the specific circumstances of the event, etc.: everything is negotiable.

Yes, that is possible, including on national holidays. It depends on availability, but I am very flexible. In this case, however, you should take into account 150% of the relevant rate, because interpreters/translators need a rest period like all other professions.

If I want to give a presentation/tour to a group of people, how does interpreting work?

Consecutive and simultaneous interpreting can be used for presentations, also combined. Simultaneous interpreting is more effective during a presentation, combined with consecutive interpreting during the question-and-answer part.

The tour is more effective with a whisper interpreting set (the interpreter interprets simultaneously into the microphone and the audience is given earplugs to follow along). If the audience consists of one or two people, whisper interpreting can also be used where the interpreter sits or stands close to the participants and whispers directly into their ear. However, this can be disruptive to the rest of the audience.

Payments are possible in cash, via bank transfer, via PayPal, via a payment request, Tikkie, etc.

The payment period for bank transfers is15 days. The terms and manner can be agreed in advance. For new customers, a down payment of 50% will be applied (this applies to interpreting and translation).

Speak in a normal pace, but be prepared that the interpreter will ask you to speak more slowly or too stop. Avoid excessive jargon, idioms and slang, as this can lead to confusion or be difficult to interpret.

Trek extra time out for the meeting, count 15 to 30 minutes hourly meeting time. Do not assume you are understood based on non-verbal cues such as nodding.
